We understand how important it is to protect and to secure your personal information.

In this Privacy Statement we outline the type of personal information we collect, how we collect and use your personal information, the purposes for which your personal information is collected, how we disclose your personal information, how you can update your personal information and how to make a complaint.

In this Privacy Statement “we”, “us” and “our” mean Rural Affinity Insurance Agency Pty Ltd ACN 119 838 854 AFS Licence No 302182.

When we refer to personal information we mean information from which your identity is reasonably apparent.  This personal information may include information or an opinion about you and may include sensitive information.

1.     What personal information do we collect?

We collect your personal information for the purposes set out in section 4 of this Privacy Statement and to provide you with our products and/or services.

The kind of personal information we collect may include details such as your name, date of birth, address, occupation and any other personal information we may need to identify you and provide you with our products and/or services.

2.       What sensitive information do we collect?

We may also collect your sensitive information.

The kind of sensitive information we collect may include details such as your claims, insurance, financial, criminal offence and driving history.  In other circumstances, we will collect sensitive information about you where it is required or permitted by law or otherwise permitted under applicable laws.

By providing us or third parties with sensitive information, you consent to us collecting sensitive information for the purposes set out in section 4 of this Privacy Statement.

3.     How do we collect personal information?

Ordinarily we will collect your personal information directly from you. However, we will also collect personal information about you from third parties (who may include brokers, loss adjusters, investigators, medical advisers, lawyers and other third parties) with whom you deal with in relation to your insurance policy.

We may collect your personal information in a number of ways.  Your personal information may be sent to us by letter, email, telephone, fax or electronically by electronic data transfer or imaged documents.

We may also collect personal information about you from someone else, such as, experts, facilitators, risk assessors, loss adjusters and anyone else involved in assessing and managing claims under your insurance policy.

We may also collect personal information about someone else from you. If you provide personal information to us about someone else you must only do so with their consent and agree to make them aware of this Privacy Statement and how they may gain access to their personal information.

Irrespective of the source of the personal information, we respect and protect the privacy of personal information.

4.     What are the purpose(s) of collecting your personal information and the consequences if we are not provided with your personal information?

We collect personal information for the purpose of quoting on a risk and to decide whether and on what terms we will issue you with an insurance policy or renew your insurance policy. We also collect personal information for the purposes of assessing, managing and settling a claim under your insurance policy.

If you do not provide us with your personal information we may not be able to provide you with our products and/or services.

5.     To whom do we disclose personal information?

We may disclose personal information about you to our underwriter and service providers that carry out services on our behalf, such as risk assessors and facilitators. Some of them may be located overseas, such as in New Zealand and Germany. Our contractual arrangements with our underwriter and service providers generally include an obligation for them to comply with the Australian privacy laws.

If you consent to the disclosure of your personal information to overseas recipients, and the overseas recipient handles your personal information in a way other than in accordance with the Australian privacy laws, we may not be responsible for the handling of your personal information by the overseas recipient.

If you choose not to provide your personal information and/or choose not to consent and/or withdraw your consent to the disclosure of your personal information to overseas recipients at any stage, we may not be able to assess your application or administer and manage your insurance policy including claims management and respond to any claim that you make.

We may also disclose your personal information to others if we are required or permitted to do so by law or you consent to such a disclosure or we are otherwise permitted under applicable laws to do so.

6.     How can you update your personal information and make a complaint?

You may request us to update your personal information and/or make a complaint about our handling of your personal information.
